Summer Is Calling
It’s the new year. The days are slowly getting longer, the light is shifting, and that has us dreaming about SUMMER.
Summer — what a perfect time to be outside. Long days, warm air, dirt under fingernails, and space to breathe, explore, and grow. It’s a season that invites curiosity, freedom, and connection, and we’re so excited to share what we have planned.
This summer, we’re offering two unique outdoor programs, each rooted in our core values of child-led learning, connection to nature, and joyful community.
🌱 Greenwood Grove Summer Program
A Hybrid Forest School & Licensed Family Home Program
Our Greenwood Grove summer program is designed for school-aged children who thrive with hands-on experiences, meaningful responsibility, and plenty of time outdoors.
Throughout the summer, children will:
- Tend our small community garden on Driscoll Ave — watering, weeding, and harvesting together
- Learn age-appropriate beekeeping basics, including hive inspections, understanding pollinators, and (for those who are comfortable) participating in honey harvesting in early August
- Spend unhurried time outside engaging in open-ended play, sensory exploration, and collaborative projects
- Practice co-regulation, mindfulness, and emotional awareness, supported by caring adults and a strong sense of belonging
- Enjoy weekly library days with visits to the Spokane Public Library, nurturing a love of literacy and storytelling. Children are encouraged to get their own library card, check out books, and bring stories home to share with their families
- Participate in the joy of Forest School Days as well!
Our approach is gentle, respectful, and responsive. No child is ever required to participate in activities that make them uncomfortable — choice, consent, and trust are foundational here.
🌲 Riverside Forest School Summer Program
A Fully Outdoor, Nature-Based Experience
Riverside Forest School offers a deeply immersive outdoor experience, rooted in the belief that nature itself is a powerful teacher.
Children in this program will:
- Spend their days learning entirely outdoors, moving through the seasons and weather with curiosity and confidence
- Engage in child-led exploration, nature skills, group games, and storytelling
- Build resilience, problem-solving skills, and strong peer relationships through shared outdoor experiences
- Develop a sense of stewardship and care for the land and one another
This program is ideal for children who crave movement, exploration, and the freedom to learn with their whole bodies.
A Summer of Belonging, Growth, and Joy
Both of our summer programs are intentionally small, relationship-centered, and grounded in the belief that children are naturally capable, curious, and worthy—exactly as they are.
If you’re dreaming of a summer where your child can slow down, get muddy, feel connected, and truly belong, we’d love to welcome you into our community.
